How I've Been Losing Weight

So, apparently my New Years resolutions have begun early. Lose weight? Check.

This wasn't exactly by effort, although I would love to say it's from hard work and dedication. I've been on winter break and uhhhhmmm exercise? No check. I haven't moved my lazy butt too much but I did work in a few exercises throughout my movie marathons.

Alright so I had to have my wisdom teeth removed the 26th, yes the day after Christmas. No biggie. But anyways, I could have no solid food and I still haven't eaten a whole piece of bread in a week. I literally have filled up on cinnamon applesauce (my favorite), Greek yogurt, and frozen yogurts. If you eat like this for a week or so there is no way you won't lose weight, for real.

I'm not saying that this is the ideal diet because it was very difficult for me to incorporate veggies and other nutritions in but I have just recently begun to eat more veggies/fruits. Seriously consider doing more of a liquid/soft food diet but make sure to get proper nutrition. I got pretty much all my protein from the Greek yogurts I consumed like a maniac. Just pretend you just got your wisdom teeth removed and you have a painful dry socket (which I had.)

Start out your new year right!

My Plan for Success

I make lists like these to help motivate mr and keep me on track. Sometimes it's hard to follow a healthy diet when you have crappy food at your house. It's also good to have a workout plan to follow. It doesn't even have to be a specific plan, just a general one for you to follow and figure out the specific workouts as you go.

Roasted Cauliflower

I la la love this recipe because it might seem gross but it's ahmazing. I use cumin, chili powder, and some cayenne powder but you can use whatever kind of seasoning you like.

Here's what I did -

Ingredients:
Chopped up head of cauliflower
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp cumin (maybe a little more)
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper powder
(I don't measure so this is a guess, flavor to how intense you want!)

Instructions:
1. Heat oven to 400° F.
2. Cut up cauliflower and break into flowerets in a medium bowl.
3. Add olive oil and seasoning and mix together well.
4. Spread cauliflower out on a baking sheet, preferably a 9x13 pan.
5. Put in oven for 30 minutes and enjoy!

My favorites

I know this is supposed to be a healthy blog and whatever but I thought I would post some pictures of my faaaavorite products that I use all the time. If you're wondering why there's baby powder, it's because it's a serious lifesaver. Showering everyday is just not good for your hair so by sprinkling some baby powder on your scalp it absorbs the oil.

My tips on being healthy!

Tips for Healthy Eating:

#1 - If you don't make the food, you can't eat it.

I think everybody has those days where all they can think about is food. Especially with the handy tool of Pinterest to keep your mouth watering over amazing desserts. One way that I've started to lose weight is to just stop baking all this sweet stuff!

#2 - Don't chow down on the bread! Carbs will make you gain weight.

One thing that can ruin a good day of eating is the dreaded carbs. Don't completely cut out carbs because I've learned from experience that this will only lead to a terrible binge on carbs, carbs, and more carbs. Don't go all Atkins diet because that just does not work, 20 grams of carbs per day is a great way to lose weight but it's nearly impossible. I've tried.

#3 - Water is your friend! Drink as much as you can.

Every blog, website, and health book you will read will stress the importance of drinking water. It seriously is hugely important in losing weight. It not only makes you have the sensation of feeling more full but it also helps you digest food better. There are some people that say you shouldn't drink water for 30 minutes after a meal... Don't listen to this bologna. The Mayo Clinic says that it will benefit your digestion and I would definitely take their word for it. I like to make pitchers full of unsweetened tea or water with lemons, apples, or cinnamon. Don't use those Crystal Light packets because they're just full of nasty chemicals.

#4 - Indulge every now and then to prevent a crazy binge crash.

Don't roll your eyes at this next tip because that's what I used to do when I read this all the time. Indulging every now and then can actually help you. Having a few pieces of chocolate here and there does have sugar and carbs and whatever else but it curbs your cravings and prevents you from just binging on cupcakes and other detrimental desserts/foods.

#4 - Take in all the compliments you receive. Use them as motivation to do more!

This last tip is just something to help you stay motivated. When I first started losing weight it was nice when people would say, "You look skinny!" It seriously is a huge booster and makes you want to do more and look better so that you can get more compliments. Humans are kind of self centered and want people to look at them. It's just the truth!

As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said:

"The first wealth is health."

About ME

Sometimes I like to cook things... I actually like to cook things ALL the time. It's one of the reasons that my weight is not where I want and it's also how I'm making myself lose weight.

I'm a freshman in college and I have been larger than I would like since about my sophomore year in high school. I would't say that I'm fat because I know that I'm not... But compared to my lucky stick thin friends I would definitely say that I have a little more pudge on me.

I created this blog to help me become more healthy and share with everyone my journey. There is great food, exercise, and motivation for me and everyone else in my shoes!
